Planning a Visit to the Concord School and Carriage House
To visit the Concord School, please follow the instructions below:
1. Contact Dr. Veronica Ent, Concord School Information and Tour Coordinator, to arrange a time at 412-558-1962 or by email concordschool1848@gmail.com. Please let us know what most interests you about the school or carriage museum.
2. Since the schoolhouse is located on a farm and unheated, please dress for the weather and wear soft sole shoes to not damage the wood floors.
3. Outdoor restrooms are very rustic. The Carriage house is equipped with modern facilities. Due to the rural setting, it is advised to use the restroom prior to arriving.
4. Due to security reasons, limited photography is permitted inside the school proper. Photographs are welcomed anywhere outside the building and carriage museum.
5. Small children typically have shorter attention spans, please keep a close eye on children that may not remain as interested in the topic as the adults.
6. Please refrain from siting in carriages or on top of desks in the schoolroom. The age of these desks make them less strong. Please only sit in the larger adult-sized desks.
7. The Concord School is designed to appear "as the students left" the books and items are in open and displayed as used. Please do not use these items or handle them carelessly. Typically, your guide welcomes others to see all items in the school, but please ask permission before handling them.
8. The schoolhouse and carriage house is private and we ask our guests to respect the building since it has been kept as original as possible.
9. While the school building is not handicapped accessible, special arrangements can be made to help visitors experience the schoolroom. The carriage museum is accessible by wheelchair.
10. Parking will be in a gated, level, mowed lawn area. Buses (that can not enter through the gate) can be accommodated by nearby road parking across from the schoolhouse on Loyalhanna Dam Road.
11. As with many organizations, tax deductible donations are greatly appreciated to help sustain the school for others to enjoy.
