About the Program

Concord Restores provides youth with restorative learning experiences that blend equine-assisted activities, nature-based wellness practices, expressive arts, and guided reflection. Rooted in the legacy of the historic Concord Schoolhouse, the program supports students in developing confidence, emotional regulation, communication skills, and meaningful connection with the natural world. Led by Dr. Veronica Ent, certified educator and professor of Education, and Amanda Baker, life-resiliency coach and wellness practitioner, sessions are designed to nurture the whole child and complement instruction, social-emotional learning, and other youth program missions.

Why This Approach Works

Evidence-Based Benefits for Students

Investing in programs that combine horses, nature-based experiences, and expressive arts is supported by a growing body of peer-reviewed research showing measurable benefits for youth. Studies indicate that equine-assisted learning and nature-based interventions contribute to

• improved social-emotional learning (SEL)
• reduced anxiety, depression, and stress
• enhanced self-awareness and emotional insight
• increased social engagement and cooperation
• strengthened attention, focus, and regulation

Nature-based and animal-assisted programs activate calming physiological responses, support executive functioning, and create safe relational spaces that help students practice skills they can transfer back to their lives. These positive impacts make a strong case that restorative, experiential programs such as Concord Restores serve as effective complements to classroom instruction, youth group activities, and conventional or specialized group counseling.
